Take a Peek at the Process of Kidney Dialysis (Hemodialysis) at RSU Bunda Margonda

Kidney dialysis or also known as hemodialysis is a recommended health care procedure for people with chronic kidney disease. This therapy is generally carried out by patients with kidney problems because their kidneys are not functioning optimally so they are unable to properly filter toxins and metabolic waste from the body.

Kidneys are organs that are responsible for cleaning the blood, removing impurities, and removing excess body fluids. The excreted feces and fluid will enter the bladder. It is then excreted from the body through the urine. However, these organs can be disturbed so that their functions must be replaced by medical procedures.

Kidney Dialysis Process by Hemodialysis

When the kidneys lose their ability, there will be a buildup of waste, toxins and fluids in the body, so they must carry out health procedures so that their life can last a long time. It is important that a doctor's examination is mandatory beforehand. There are many things to consider before carrying out the procedure. Among them are the amount of creatinine and urea, the speed at which organs filter blood, the body's ability to cope with excess water, complaints of heart, respiratory and digestive tract disorders. Through hemodialysis, the role of the organ is replaced by a dialyser tube that is connected to the machine. This allows the kidneys to excrete toxins, regulate blood pressure, balance levels of minerals such as potassium, sodium and calcium.

Hemodialysis can be carried out in hospitals that provide these facilities, one of which is at RSU Bunda Jakarta and Margonda. Patients come to the hospital according to a predetermined schedule. Hemodialysis takes 4-5 hours in one meeting, while its implementation must be routine about 2 to 3 times a week. It is then performed throughout life to replace damaged kidney function. During the therapy process, the patient can do things relaxing. Patients can watch TV, read books to sleep. Doctors and nurses will monitor the patient's condition during the therapy. Patients can also convey if there are complaints, such as muscle cramps, nausea to cold sweats.

Before starting therapy, the hemodialysis machine must be ensured that it is sterile. Then, begin to carry out the connection of the tools to the machine. Patients will undergo therapy for 4 hours for dialysis 3 times a week, while for those who carry out dialysis 2 times a week it takes longer, which is about 5 hours. In this therapy, the access used is cimino (AV Shunt) or hemodialysis catheter.

Impact of Kidney Dialysis (Hemodialysis)

In general, dialysis procedures do not cause patients to experience pain, only mild side effects such as headache, nausea, vomiting, cramps, decreased blood pressure, easy fatigue, dry or itchy skin. After dialysis, the patient is able to return to other activities such as sports, driving to vacations, but it is ensured that all activities are not excessive.

Patients can also go home immediately if there are no complaints after the procedure. Patients will be advised to maintain health by eating healthy foods so that fluid, protein and salt intake remains balanced. To ensure that metabolic wastes and excess fluids have been removed from the body, the doctor will examine the patient's condition. Both before, during and after the procedure is carried out. For patients who are likely to receive a kidney transplant, dialysis may be performed as a temporary procedure until an organ donor is available. After the patient has received an organ donor, there is no need for dialysis again.

Damaged kidney function can be replaced through medical procedures. The procedure is carried out by removing waste, chemicals and excess body fluids. The procedure is called kidney dialysis and can be carried out at Bunda Jakarta and Bunda Margonda RSUs which have been integrated with modern medical tools and techniques. Through the hands of doctors who are experts in their fields and with adequate facilities, patients become more comfortable and the healing process is faster.
